9 original ideas for entertaining outside this summer

I love summer evenings! The good meals between friends that stretch until late at night, the laughter of the children who have fun catching fireflies, the sound of wood cracking in the fire…

Often we stop receiving because we have the impression that it will require a lot of energy, that it will be complicated isn’t it? I encourage you to send out your invitations, look around and see what you can use that you already have!

1- A simple decoration for the table

Lanterns and candlesticks of all sizes, bouquets of flowers picked from the garden in disparate vases and simple colored cardboard pellets. You see, no need to embark on an elaborate table decoration to obtain a magical atmosphere!

2- Comfort

Do you want to spend several hours enjoying the terrace? We then think of adding lots of cushions on the chairs and benches. Again, I encourage you to use the ones that usually decorate your interior!

Also plan to have wool blankets and cozy throws to warm your guests when the night comes.

3- The soundscape

What could be more soothing than the sound of water flowing from a fountain? The noise of the fountain also has the advantage of covering the surrounding sounds, more than interesting if you live in the city. Also, who says sound environment, says music: remember to install speakers outside and program a musical selection for the evening in advance.

4- A bar for everyone

Have everything close at hand in a cart on the terrace: cups, glasses, napkins, a serving tray, and a bucket filled with ice cubes that keeps drinks cold.

Don’t forget your little guests and also prepare a station for drinks and treats with everything you need to make “s’ mores” over the campfire.

5- Not enough seats to receive a large number of guests?

Never mind! Get out of the ordinary and create a magical atmosphere of the Arabian Nights by spreading rugs and thick blankets directly on the floor. Also, have several large cushions for maximum comfort.

For the table, use painted plywood panels that you place on wooden boxes. Then unroll a sheet of kraft paper to create a simple table runner.

6- Heat and light

Something would be missing at a reception on a beautiful summer evening if there were no bonfire! If it’s not possible for you to light a big fire, take out the lanterns you already have at home, float lights designed for this purpose on the pool, or light bamboo torches for a tropical atmosphere.

7- Surprisingly simple lighting

Garlands of white lights are hung vertically from a tree branch and another rope is wrapped around the trunk. Reuse your strings of Christmas lights from last winter!

Reproduce this concept by changing the light strings on your pergola or using a cut tree branch that you have hung.

8- Outdoor cinema

End the evening with a film in exterior projection. Borrow the canvas for your parents’ slides or simply stretch a white sheet over a rope. Don’t forget the popcorn!

9- Camping in the courtyard

Set up your camping tent in the backyard and transform it into a playroom for the delight of children who will spend the night outside.

Strings of lights are hung at the entrance and inside the tent. Carpets are placed on the floor for the comfort of little feet. Fun and laughter guaranteed!

You see, you don’t need a huge investment of money to make a magical evening! It only takes a little time and imagination: that’s how you create lasting memories of summer.
